Good Evening Woodward Families.and staff,
As you know, today Cincinnati Police Department and my security team put Woodward on a lockdown as a result of police activity in the area. A student off campus, but nearby, was shot and returned to the school to seek help. Staff immediately called 911 and secured the building. The student was transported to the hospital, and our school remained in a lockdown while police searched the building as a precaution. The intention of the lockdown is to secure all students and staff to allow police and security to search for any potential threat and that is exactly what they did today. There is no timetable as to how long a search may take, and we all know this is stressful and traumatic for students of all ages, parents and our staff. Please know, no suspect or weapon was found at our school. In addition, we canceled all after school activities at our campus tonight.
I would like to thank the Cincinnati Police Department and our security team for their swift response and investigation. CPD is continuing their investigation. As a precaution we will have additional security for the remainder of the week.
We understand and acknowledge this is a traumatic event for students and staff. Our full school support team was at school today, and our full crisis team will be on site tomorrow to help any of our students who need assistance processing today’s events.
I am thankful for the response and cooperation of our staff members, and the swift response and support of CPD and emergency personnel.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 513-363-9300 during normal school hours.
Sincerely,
Micheal Workman
